After hearing so much about her beloved Hong Kong, Susie is finally taking me back with her and I could not be more excited! Our plane jets off from Heathrow tomorrow evening and we will be exploring this busy city for eights full days. Whilst much of the trip will revolve around me scoffing my face with all sorts of tasty treats there will be plenty of time for me to do enjoy the sport of shopping. Dim sum, egg balls, roast goose and even snake have found themselves on the growing menu of my mind but I'd like to explore all that the city has to offer in regard to men's style as well. Top of the list is excellent, affordable tailoring. Hong Kong has long been a world-leader in producing bespoke and made to measure suits at half the price of their London and New York counterparts (whilst conceding very little on quality). Regular readers will know that my fascination with the craftsmanship of good tailoring is long held and I cannot wait to discover what Hong Kong has to offer me.
My initial research shows that there are just too many tailors in Hong Kong to tell which are of any quality. To save much head scratching on my part, I am opening up the comments section to your suggestions. Now, please don't be shy. I appreciate that even if I get a good recommendation from you, your positive experiences won't guarantee one for me, so no pressure at all. I'd love to hear from one and all. In a city where tailors are ten a penny your guidance will be invaluable.

I'm sure in all of your research you've seen this, but it could be helpful in weeding some choice out, right?

enjoy!
Steve, as per my linked interview, I highly recommend W.W. Chan & Sons (http://www.mensflair.com/news/peter-chan-interview.php) darlings of the internet forae and reputedly one of HK's best 3 tailoring houses. My friend is modeling his own Chan-made suits in the photos; one of them is in a Dashing Tweeds cloth, which they currently offer. They're an exceptionally good house - affordable with a great amount of creativity, tradition, handwork and customer service, as well as a ridiculous amount of top line fabrics. It's full service bespoke all the way - I commissioned 3 shirts from them last month. It also helps that they have a history, having been in business for 50 years
Seeing as I wrote that interview the week Chan visited London for the first time, you could have been measured here and done the follow-ups there!
Aside from them, I think H.Baroman, A-Man Hing Cheong and Y William Yu are very well regarded regarded among the ifraternity. Yu is the lowest-priced of all I've mentioned thus far - think they start around 700-800 USD, while the others are around 1000 and up. In styling terms I suspect you'd be a more natural Chan customer
the thing is, tailors might be all good, but i was never happy with the fabric choices they got there, eeek
Nothing to offer re: HK tailors, unfortunately but have a an amazing time!

Thanks so much everyone! Just logged on to my computer before I attack the task of packing and have been blown away by the response. Keep them coming, I will of course let you all know how I get on as and when I can. Thanks again.
this is very exciting, i look forward to hearing how it goes and what you found.
Not a tailor recommendation, but a shopping one instead: http://www.god.com.hk/index.php Go here for HK homewares...
Ascot Chang is fantastic in IFC. They have amazing fabrics and the tailoring is superb. Also, James Chen in the Mandarin is great - its wear I tailor 95% of my shirts.
theres a great tailor in the admiralty center thats just accross the walkway from the shopping mall 'pacific place', the tailor is called 'jim's workshop'. the quality is very good and the prices are reasonable, i have two suits and many shirts from there and im extremely pleased. happy shopping
