The Denim Challenge...an excuse to shop

The image comes courtesy of the lovely Phil from Streetpeeper who spent the weekend on a blow up bed in our living room whilst capturing some great street style snaps of the folks of London.

EJ's recent picture postcard reminded me of my need to experiment with a certain fabric. For too long in my mind denim has only ever equated to jeans but as previously posted, the fabric has so much more to offer. Spring was always going to be the season when I played with denim and there has been plenty of inspiration in recent months, namely the Lanvin x Acne collaboration and I've considered accessories and much to Thom's disbelief...even denim blazers. Never one to shirk from a challenge, especially when one involves the opportunity to go shop, I ventured in to central and found exactly what I was looking for in bstore. Their ss09 collection had a quintessentially English quality with somewhat nostalgic straw boaters courtesy of Christine Bec for bStore, chambray denim smock tops, triple-pleat trousers which were neatly rolled up to the ankle and cotton shirts. When I saw the chambray denim smock tops hanging on the rails I just knew that I had to have it. I will certainly play with denim over the next few months because I've enjoyed dipping my toe in the chambray waters...I still don't think I can wear an all denim ensemble just yet though. here I teamed up my new purchase with rolled up Uniqlo wool trousers, suede Mario shoes by bstore and as the sun was shining I even dusted off my Linda Farrow for Topman sunglasses!

Oh, am such a fan of rolling-up...dodgy statement but I think you know what I mean.

Shall try and reconsider my opinion of denim...

oh dear you bought the wrong shirt - the long sleeved version is the one jumping out of b store. the short sleeved one they are having problems shifting and with good reason - still at least you seem happy in your purchase which just goes to show you cant keep a fashion obsessive down

b-store are having trouble shifting the short sleeve shirt? Well, I can never resist a challenge, even if Steve has taken it up already

As a guy who's worn a denim blazer with loose denim trousers, Steve, I urge you to proceed with caution. Fearless, but with caution

What's with the hating on the shirt? I'm all for the whole outfit!

He looks like an escapee from the denim ward at Arkham.

Wow, really looks as though this is a true marmite shirt.
TheSundayBest - Firstly, no offence to your mum but I would try and wear items that she would not wear so I take that as a compliment. Secondly, you own and have worn an all denim suit as certified by your gf...if you feel this way about my shirt I think you should burn your own ensemble.
Cillian - When the sun shines it is always time to roll up. There is something decidely old England about it.
Anonymous - Well, I'm glad I helped them out with their sales. I found the long sleeve too much for Spring.
Barima - Join me.
Asian Cajuns - I'm quite surrpised by it all considering the rest of my outfit has been given high praise in the past.

Thom: be nice!

And hey, I think that denim top looks good despite the fact that I've neven been a big fan of that fabric.

You know what Steve, good on you! If I saw that shirt on a rack, I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd probably just move on (quickly).

But you sir, are seriously rocking it there! I'll stand by it even it IS now considered the marmite shirt. After months in England my girlfriend finally slipped me some. What a horrible experience.

yeah i think that really suits your, and what a nice outfit too. i currently have two denim shirts, one black and one light blue and they are both in heavy rotation at the mo. those uniqlo trousers looks really snazzy too, don't they have the best coloured socks in there! the bonus is they dont go bobbly

I stick by what I said, Mr. You Should Burn It. It isn't the denim that I have a problem with....

;p

I really like the the whole outfit Steve, especially the shirt! There is definitely something unashamably British about it. I think that the non-supporters are heathens and should feel the full force of her majesty, or something patriotic!

This item has divided opinion like nothing else in my wardrobe. I feel the need to point out that I am good blogging friends with Thom and it is ok for him not to like an item of my wardrobe.
