Street Style Surprise

As I made my final visit of the day to thesartorialist before retreating to bed (it was the second of the day...it had been a slow day for my aesthetic amusement as work was frustratingly an obstacle) I must admit that I was surprised by the below image....

My eyes have been conditioned by the elegant but somewhat safe style captured by his camera. After getting over the style shock my first reaction was that the comments box must be full of negative comments...questioning why Mr Schuman would shoot such a 'try hard' or at the very least just wouldn't understand where the chap was coming from...but to my second surprise in mere moments, the feedback was 90% positive. I can go to bed happy. Happy, firstly as thesart has given me something new, awoken me out of my constant nodding approval of the street style shots contained within his blog by offering me something different, something intriguing; and secondly because a significant number of people appreciated it rather than shoot it down with negativity. Yes, there are elements of the outfit which are questionable (the shoes in particular) but on the whole this is a multi layered and textured look which is original and (for me) carried off (interestingly). What do you make of it all?

I really admire the sartorialist and I follow this blog, well, almost religiously. I too was a bit taken aback by this pic - all great items and well matched (except for the shoes - maybe riding boots woud go down better?) but I think I'd prefer to see it on a woman?

My main complaint is the cocked hat. That's a pet peeve of mine. The peacock feather complements the jodhpurs and the olive belt.

The obvious complaints about the femininity of the outfit are silly. Rules were meant to be broken especially when androgynous personalities are involved.

What I like is that Sartorialist is expanding his own horizons if he lets this look into his blog. Everyone can do with a little shakeup now and then.

Both Sartorialist and the guy he shot showed a little bravery.

But something tells me that the guy he shot is this "brave" all the time. ;)

I featured him too! I thought it was a great leap for The Sart to show someone a bit more androgynous - and without the perfect cufflinks or collar or pocket square, for once.

ian brown - I am with you on the cocked hat but I forgive the chap here.
enc and amy may - I agree with you both. The Sartorialist is certainly exploring more styles than he used to and this can only be a good thing for us - it certainly keeps me entertained.

Somehow Kingsley Amis comes to mind: "I want a dish to taste good, rather than to have been seethed in pig's milk and served wrapped in a rhubarb leaf with grated thistle root."

Wish I had those trousers, yummie. It are also the feminine legs of the dresser that make the whole image girly. How does the hat stay on his head. Wearing it cocked forward in stead of sideways would be change the entire attitude.

this is one of my favorite looks in the entire archive of the sartorialist. i love his confidence, and the overall color palette is just gorgeous. the shoes are questionable, but i feel he pulls them off quite well.
